About Us:

Check out this video of our Homeless Resources Fair:

Did you know the number one cause of homelessness is job loss? Los Angeles County unemployment rate has reached double digits for the first time since the 1990s. And Nearly one third of our workers make less than 25,000 a year.

Homelessness is a big problem in Los Angeles County. How big of a problem you may ask? Big enough for Los Angeles to be named the homeless capital of the nation. Most people who haven’t visited Los Angeles County assume skid Row is the only place you’ll find your homeless neighbors; but the truth is only 8% of the homeless population in Los Angeles County takes shelter on skid row. As of 2014 there are 50,340 people homeless in Los Angeles County. With 12,000 of them being our veterans- 32% with an earned that’s bachelors degree and over 33% suffering from untreated mental illness. Though we know we cannot fix the problem we must realize the solution is deeper  than most can fathom. “if you cannot feed 100 people just feed one” as Mother Teresa has been quoted many times before.

After learning about the facts; and doing plenty research of her own Jacqueline Herrera started a nonprofit organization Operation Healthy Hearts founded in 2014, and based out of San Gabriel Valley with several goals in mind. The mission of Operation Healthy Hearts is to prevent and reverse the sudden onset of homelessness while teaching the importance of compassion towards one another & personal wellness. This team of volunteers is definitely making a difference. Every Thursday and Friday from 11:00 AM – 3:00 PM this team of volunteers comes together with several LA County Services providers such as LASD Homeless Outreach services team, Department o Public Health, Department of Mental Health, LAHSA, Lava Mae, Salvation Army and many more. Operation Healthy Hearts serves free hot food to those in need in the South El Monte Community. While regularly feeding 60+ individuals ; they never don’t do it with a smile and love in their hearts.

Operation Healthy Hearts also offers other small services and programs such as resume writing assistance, hygiene relief packages and take home lunches. If you would like more information about the services or programs please visit their Facebook page or Instagram by searching “Operation Healthy Hearts”.

Operation Healthy Hearts team of volunteers is committed and eager to make a change in the world one person at a time.
